As a multiple olympic gold medalist, Jefferson Pierce could easily have turned his fame into fortune. Instead, he chose to return to his old crime-ridden neighborhood as a high school teacher - and Black Lightning, hero of the streets and protector of ordinary people threatened by criminals and their activities.

As with most figures in this Wal-Mart exclusive wave, Black Lightning is made entirely from a blank body with the exception of a new headsculpt. He is depicted in his bald look with the Big 13 JLoA suit. The lines are clearly made between colors. One minor complaint for some though is that his goggles are molded in opaque plastic as opposed to the clear yellow previously seen in pre-sales photos. It is likely that it is due to this particular wave being a budget wave, thus the need to cut some corners. The same was done to a previous Black Lightning figure, released by DC Direct for the 2nd wave of the ‘Justice League of America’ line. Many however have embraced the look and have made it clear that it’s not as much of a bother as the treatment made for Eradicator’s visor, also molded in opaque plastic, coming in the same wave.
