Bio (DCUC)[]

Mantis is a servant of Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips, the planet of ultimate evil, and his power may rival that of his master. When Darkseid sent Mantis to Earth to locate the Anti-Life Equation, the means to control all sentient life throughout the universe, Mantis schemed to conquer the planet himself instead. Cursed with an insatiable lust for power, Mantis would be just as happy to see Darkseid defeated as he would to see Apokolips triumph.

Wave 9[]

Description: Mantis (Comic Version)
Figure Number:Wave 9 figure 5
Articulation: 23POA
Accessories: none
Includes:Chemo (DC Universe) left arm
Sculpted by: The Four Horsemen
Appearances:Wave 9

Mantis, as seen here is one of the character’s from Jack Kirby’s rich ‘Fourth World”. He is mostly a base body with new sculpted boots, done in a layer-looking fashion. The newly-sculpted pieces all have holes in which the cape sticks into. Unlike the previous JLU version, this Mantis figure keeps to the tradition of being built into the figure instead of being cloth. The cape, made of very thin plastic moves with the figure, but to a reasonable extent, the articulation is somewhat held back. The caper, however, was made to be able to give Mantis a considerable amount of articulation.

Description: Mantis (Super Powers version)

This version, however, is one of the major aesthetic revamps to Kirby’s characters as seen for Super Powers, which makes him appear rather robotic. The sculpt was well-translated from the original figure. Many of the all new parts are slapped-onto the traditional base-body, while some new bases like the arms and legs are truly new. The figure has an over-sized trap/shoulder section which adds a couple of centimeters to the figure.
